There were six key areas for change as follows:

• develop a strong and fit-for-purpose leadership
• build organisational capability
• build an effective planning and analytical capability
• strengthen delivery and performance management
• develop a stronger strategic working relationship with the managed service provider, and further develop standards of customer care
• strengthen the SIA’s impact work, and work more closely with delivery partners to secure that aim

1. Retain talentHire today, gone tomorrow? It is important that you remain an attractive employer through the downturn. If you lose your competitive edge, you could be dealt a serious blow.

2. The 6 Rs of Restructure. Restructures can knock your balance. If you need to reorganise your business, make sure you take these 6 factors into account before you start.

3. Consider the alternativesWhat are the alternatives? There is a temporary option that could balance your costs in the interim.

4. Calculate the real cost Panic job cuts could impede quick recovery for your business, with an estimated £16,375 cost attached per employee. Calculate the cost using this formula.

5. 10 downturn survival tips Although fear and uncertainty will underlie decisions, markets will recover. If you're cutting costs, be prepared.

Small Business Network – third meeting

The SIA SBN management team are putting together the Programmes for the next meeting. Details will follow, but below is the Press Release from The SIA.

As part of the SIA’s stakeholder engagement strategy, the third Small Business Network meeting will be held on Thursday 19 March in Warwick.

The meeting is being organised and facilitated by representatives from the network, with the full support of the SIA. The event follows the successes of the first two meetings held in January and June last year.

The meeting is an opportunity for those working in small security businesses to engage with the SIA and others in their industry. Delegates will be able to discuss and explore issues about the industry and regulation.
